Arrival : Khatu shyam temple is located in Khatoo town in the Sikar district of Rajasthan. It is approximately 70 km away from Jaipur and  43 km from Sikar district, where you have many options to comfortably stay near the temple, as per your interest.

History of Temple:

  • After the Mahabharat period, the floated Lord Barbarik’s head in the Roopavati river, which reached a place called Khatu, and stopped near a pond which is known as the sacred pond “Shyam kund”.
  • In Kalyug, Barbarik’s head was found in Khatu village of Sikar. A cow was grazing there, and milk started flowing from its udders on its own. When the villagers dug there, Barbarik’s head was found there. After this, Khatu Shyam temple was built at that place, and many devotees come here to fulfill their wishes.

  • Khatu shyam ji was related to the Mahabharata era; his real name was Barbarik, who was the son of Gathotkach and grandson of Bhim. He had been blessed with a tin baan by Lord Shiva that he could return after winning any war through this tin baan, but he had promised his mother Hadimba that in the Mahabharata war he would support the side which is weak or is going to lose, that is why he is also called the “Haare Ka Sahara”, then in the Mahabharata war the Kaurav were about to lose, so he thought of supporting the Kauravas but Lord Krishna already knew the result of this war, that is why becoming a worshipper he asked for his head from Barbarik in Dakshina and Barbarik ji donated the Head, Lord Krishna was pleased with this. Krishna blessed them that in Kaliyug, they will be worshipped in the name of Khatu shyam Baba.

Special occasion:

  • Falgun Mela: The most magnificent occasion of Khatu shyam Baba is celebrated for 10 days each year in the Hindu month of Falgun. The temple is open 24 hours for 10 days.
  • Ekadashi:  11th day of the lunar fortnight, a special day for worshipping Khatu Shyam Ji.
  • Janmasthmi: Celebrated with midnight prayers and Krishna Leela performances, as Khatu Shyam Ji is considered an incarnation of Lord Krishna.
